Chorus Auditions

Las Vegas Master Singers is an auditioned ensemble of approximately 80-100 volunteer singers. Chorus members re-audition every 2 years as a way to check-in vocally with the conductor.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

• Please dress respectfully (weather appropriate)

• Please be on time

• Please be warmed up, hydrated, and ready to sing at your scheduled time

MUSICAL PREPARATION

Please be prepared to complete the following audition elements:

1. Singing to the top and bottom of your vocal range. Using a series of easy vocalizes, you will be asked to explore the full extremities of your vocal range.

2. Tonal Memory. A series of pitches will be played on the piano, and you will be asked to sing them back on a neutral vowel, like “la.”

3. Music Reading. Be prepared to sing and read music you haven’t seen before, in varying degrees of difficulty.

4. Sing one minute, a cappella, of a solo you have prepared. Please ensure that the excerpt you select demonstrates your very best singing technique, color, and range. 

Advice: it is better to sing something “easy” that you feel comfortable performing than it is to sing something technically demanding but with low confidence.

5. Sing a prepared choral excerpt on a voice part of your choosing.

FOR AMERICA 250 PROJECT AUDITIONERS:

   1. M.41-55. Sopranos may select either S1 or S2 part

2. Excerpt from Randall Thompson’s Frostiana

   1. m.41-60.

FOR SACRED MEXICO PROJECT AUDITIONERS:

1. Excerpt from Francisco Capillas’s Missa Super Scalam Aretinam

   1. M.27-42. All tenors should prepare the Tenor 1 part

   2. Latin will be standard Italianate pronunciation

Auditions are on the following dates:

Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 1-8 PM

Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 1-4 PM

Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 1-8 PM

All auditions are held in Beam Music Center, Room 159, on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89154.
